The Many Countries of Discovery Academy

We have over  20 signs already spoken for by first generation families in the school. The signs, designed by the students and their family, will have the country of origin and the distance from Discovery.

Country Signs

WE NEEDED YOU! We are looking for Discovery families to paint a sign for their country. We will only have one sign per country so first come first serve. Get an application from your teacher and if your country is available we will give you a sign to paint. We can’t wait to celebrate all the countries our school represents when we reveal the signs at Taste of Discovery in January. If your country is NOT on the below list  we want to hear from you.

Learning Never Stops

Every week Discovery teachers are exploring new teaching and learning new strategies. Learning never stops (even when you are an adult). Today, teachers explored the Engineering Design Process and created lunar landing models with cups, straws, rubberbands, and cardboard. The Science lab was filled with creativity, teamwork, laughter and amazing engineering designs.

Geocaching at Discovery Academy

3rd Geochaching

Today was an exciting day in Mrs. Miller’s class. We went on our first geocaching adventure and blended social studies, science, and math to help us understand our place on the globe. Geocaching is a sport that uses Latitude and Longitude coordinates to find hidden treasure boxes. When you find a box you sign the log book and exchange a trinket with one you brought. Discovery Academy has four boxes hidden on the grounds and we used GPS units with way-point coordinates to find a hidden treasure box.

3rd Geochaching find

Come and join the learning adventure at the November PTO Geocaching Presentation by our STEM and Reading Coaches. Dress for the weather and bring a small trinket (whistle, dice, key chain, tiny toy…)

Perseverance

Scientists and engineers need perseverance to make new scientific discoveries and engineering inventions. At Discovery we celebrate perseverance in students and recognize outstanding students with PAT Awards. The PBIS Assembly today was a celebration of Respect and Giving your Best. Congratulations to the award winners for this month. Who will it be next month?????
