I noticed a strange phenomenon this morning. Do any Discovery Academy students have a theory on what caused the rectangular water marks on our building? Send me your theories and I will post them.
Second graders were hard at work eyeballing objects and making measurement estimates. The more they practiced, the closer their estimates became to the actual measurements. This valuable skill of estimating is used throughout our lives and can even lead to a career path.
Third graders have finished their recycling unit and are displaying their creative recycling inventions in the showcase by the Art and Music rooms. Check out the ingenuity and resourceful use of materials. I was able to watch some of the classroom presentations. The presenting skills were excellent and the attentive audience and thoughtful questions were most impressive.
Our country signs, representing first generation families, show what an amazingly diverse school we have. Contact Mrs. Neseralla if your country is not represented. We want to include staff too! Sixteen signs finished and twelve or more to go. Aren’t they beautiful?
CREC RSCO Fair. It is fun promoting Discovery Academy and meeting all the potential students and parents.
Yesterday over 230 Discovery Academy 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students were part of a world-wide coding event. The Hour of Code will have over 100 million students in over 180 countries coding for an hour. It was amazing to watch the perseverance, focus and absolute fun in the classrooms. With the aftercare joining us we coded for a duration of TEN 24 hour days! All of the tutorials are accessible at home on an iPad or computer at Code.org.
