Butterflies and a Unknown Guest

DSC08228  DSC08231

The preK students are raising butterflies from caterpillars. Over the weekend the pupas hatched and we have butterflies that will be released tomorrow. We also have a surprise visitor in Mrs. Lynch’s classroom. When this winged creature flew across the room we thought a butterfly had escaped. We caught this guy and put him in with the other butterflies. Who do you think this impostor is?

Now these are butterflies!

Discovery’s Enrollment went up by Nine Today!

Exciting news in Mrs. Hickey’s classroom! Nine baby chicks are hatching this morning and more are on their way. The 1st grader biologists are exploring the structure, function and behavior of a variety of animals.  Students are recording, first hand, changes in an animal life cycle as they investigate the growth and development of chickens. By being parents of their newborn baby chicks, they will find out how the structure and behavior of baby animals is alike and different from themselves and their own parents.

Growing Crystals in Third Grade

The third grade scientists were busy on Thursday learning about crystals. As each class made slight changes to their experiment dramatic changes took place. They will be observing over the next week to see what other transformations happen. Many students posed testable questions that they can explore at home.

  • I wonder what would happen if sugar rather than salt was used?
  • I wonder if yarn was used instead of cotton cord?
  • Would cold water get the same result?
