Eco-School Project

Mission:

CREC is building a new school and CREC leaders have decided that the school should be environmentally friendly.  It is your job to design the school to make it as environmentally friendly as possible.

Your job:

Phase 1: Research

  1. Research what makes buildings and organizations environmentally friendly?
  2. Find out if there are there other environmentally friendly schools that you can model after?
  3. Interview the teachers and staff at your school to collect their ideas and concerns. (Be thoughtful about your questions and be sure to take notes.)
  4. Interview your fellow students to collect their ideas.

Phase 2: Documenting your plan

  1. Draw detailed diagrams of the school
  2. Write a detailed description of your plan and how each element will help make the school more environmentally friendly.

Tips: Be sure to include data, watch your spelling, pay attention to capitalization, make sure it is neat, be persuasive.

Phase 3: How can you change your school?

  1. Now that you have designed the school of the future, how can you adjust your school to be more environmentally friendly?
    1. Short-Terms Solutions: things that are easy and quick to change
    2. Long-Term Solutions: things that take a lot of time or money to change

Phase 4: Build a presentation

  1. Transform your report and diagrams into a presentation. (You can use Power Point and / or Posters and other supplies)
  2. Present your ideas to your teachers
