Students at Discovery Academy have a big surprise this year. On top of P.E., Music, Art, and Library Media they now have Design Lab every week with Miss Bruch. The Design Lab curriculum will cycle between engineering, coding and robotics. The year will start with Design Lab mindset and each grade will start and focus on one of the three disciplines for consecutive weeks. This new class will be exciting addition for the students and is breaking new ground in education.
We can incorporate the Engineering Design Process in everyday problem solving.
ASK: What is the problem? How have others approached it? What are your constraints?
IMAGINE: What are some solutions? Brainstorm ideas. Choose the best one.
PLAN: Draw a diagram. Make lists of materials you will need.
CREATE: Follow your plan and create something. Test it out!
IMPROVE: What works? What doesn’t? What could work better? Modify your designs to make it better. Test it out!
