I found this great video from 2012, our last Leap Year. I love all the math and science involved in creating our accurate calendar. The amazing thing is that our Gregorian calendar was developed in 1852!

Take Apart Lab – 3rd Grade
Take Apart Lab – 2nd Grade
Today the 2nd graders became backward engineers and disassemble electronic devices. The students learned so much about everyday items. They will never look at phones, speakers and keyboards the same way after today. They all promised that they would not take apart anything from home without asking parents or guardians first.
Take Apart Lab – 4th Grade
We had our first Take Apart Lab today. The students did backwards engineering and explored the external and internal parts of electronic equipment.
Mr. Formica made the following observations:
– The students were willing to listen to instructions and recorded what needed to be recorded.
– They remained safe and showed above average mechanical skills in using the tools.
– There was team effort as they helped one another record observations and answer questions.
– They were actively engaged the whole period and were proud of their accomplishments.
– They experienced engineering in action.
Designing a Green School of the Future
The third grade Green Team is busy planning the school of the future. They are starting with researching schools 100 years ago, 50 years ago, and learning about our wonderful new school. Soon the architects, landscape artists, energy engineers, and resourse control specialists will start designing the school of 2066. Stay tuned!
