GPS Integration

Volvo Ocean Race Project by Discovery Academy 5th grade is on a three year cycle. Coming back the spring of 2021.

Fall 2018 – Over the next two months my brother in-law, Geoff Rudolph, will be sailing across the Atlantic Ocean. He is delivering a new sailboat from South Africa to the U.S.A. with Rorke Miller, and Meryl and Marie Marsh. This trip is a life dream of mine. I will be posting photos and updates when I receive them. Enjoy the posts.

12/7/18 – Geoff’s adventure has come to an end on the beautiful island of Grenada. It was fun to follow his trip and live vicariously.  Twenty years ago I started an adventure on Grenada when I flew down to crew on a 59 foot Tiana. I went with three strangers and island hopped for a week. Life goes full circle

12/6/18  – Land Ho!! After 2035 nautical miles Wanda Rose & crew have arrived safely into the welcoming Caribbean arms of St. George’s, Grenada. We are all happy to have terra firma beneath our feet and the air of the Caribbean Sea around us. Now time to explore

11/30/ 18 – Wanda Rose update: ”Joe put out a trolling lure this morning and hooked a nice Dorado which I promptly gave a filleting lesson for the crew. Tonight’s dinner special: Fresh Sauteed Mahi Mahi served with a lemon butter caper sauce with sides of beans & rice.” Geoff Rudolph

Update from Wanda Rose: We are 1400 miles from St. George’s/7 days sail approximately. We traveled 500 miles on this leg and are under 60 n.m. from crossing the Equator and the massive delta of the Amazon River. Geoff Rudolph

Wanda Rose has completed her first transatlantic crossing. We have arrived safely and happily to the island Fernando De Noronha. Can’t wait to explore this special place.

Wanda Rose has made landfall  in Brazil! The Atlantic crossing complete  Geoff raising the Q flag @ Fernando de Noronha – Now landed

Sail Wanda Rose , Graham and crew’s backyard for the next few days Geoff Rudolph Kate Rudolph St Francis Catamarans. Fernando de Noronha is a UNESCO world heritage site and fabled as an eco- wonderland , beach-lover’s favourite Shangri-la. Even the sharks are friendly.

Wanda Rose has cast off for Brazil, estimated 12 to 14 days at sea. Next anchorage will be along South America’s coast. They were able to send text messages from St. Helena, but unfortunately no phone calls home.

Crew field trip taking in the beautiful surroundings of St. Helena Island. What a spectacular stopover with locals who rival midwesterners in their welcoming hospitality. Setting sail soon for Brazil

Imagine waking up to that view having had no sight of land for days on end. Breathtaking!

Wanda Rose has made landfall in St. Helena. The Saints are the nicest people that have ever been.
