Second graders explored the rooftop garden today to identify fruit and vegetables and observe how the sun’s energy is transferred to our food. Some students sampled arugula, scallions, sunflower seeds, and spinach. The students also shared the risk-taking they are doing at home in trying new foods.
The 5th graders in Mrs. Smith’s class were incorporating the ISTE Technology Standards adopted by the State of Connecticut in their science class. They were Knowledge Constructors as they explored various digital tools to construct knowledge about the solar system. The were Digital Citizens as they recognized the rights, responsibilities and opportunities of living and learning in a digital world. And they were Empowered Learners as they took an active role in selecting tools and topics to reach their learning goals.
Experiments with different cups and flashlights gave first graders the evidence they needed to determine if their cup was transparent, translucent or opaque.
In the Changing Earth unit, students in 4th grade implemented the ISTE standard of “Knowledge Constructor” to explore the Grand Staircase. They used Nearpod to observe rock formations to identify patterns of rock layers.
Third graders in Mr. Tarigo’s classroom were looking for clues to match fossils.
Third graders in Mrs. Clark’s class we’re looking for clues in fossil pictures to identify the deceased mammal, fish or bird.
The shadow people sun debut was postponed due to the wind. Our scientists adapted with flashlights. Their homework this week is to conduct a shadow investigation at home and share out next week
The second graders conducted material testing in Design Lab to determine the best material to use in constructing their boats. They had to select five materials before they could begin the engineering design step.
