Students completed their second day of building and will finish their inventions at home. Our last meeting on March 9th will be focused on marketing and presentation. Mark your calendars for March 23rd for the Discovery Academy Invention Convention. Parents and guests can come to see the 2nd, 3rd and club member’s inventions from 9:30 to 10:30.
Mrs. Swanson’s class got to enjoy the outdoors and try our cross country skiing with Mr. Mancini. Truly a STEM sport, integrating friction, drag, temperature, weight and state of matter. But to our young students it was less about physics and more about physical condition and fun.
Today, I picked up an amazing seed donation from Hierloom Market in Wethersfield. It won’t be long until we start planting on the rooftop. Our next Garden Club meeting is this Monday from 3:00 to 4:00. Please consider joining us.
Second grade is busy planting and tending to our growing station outside the Library Media Center. They have planted basil, lettuce, spinach, peppers, and cucumber. I can wait to sample some of their produce.
We are excited to welcome two telescope donations from the Turco family, through The West Hartford Children’s Museum, and the Neseralla family. We have a new Bushnell Voyager Refractor telescope and a Celestron Advanced GT C10-N Reflector telescope. The telescopes can be seen in the school lobby and will go up to the roof for special events. Discovery Academy will be launching an Astronomy Club and we are looking for interested parents. Contact Mrs. Neseralla if you would like to help. cneseralla@crec.org.
