Geocaching in 3rd and 1st Grade

Third graders went out last week to find Geocaching treasure boxes hidden around our school. The first graders will be looking for treasure boxes next week on their field trip. Geocaching is a sport that uses satellite to map out coordinates of hidden boxes. The treasure boxes contain a log book and trinkets that are exchanged. It is an excellent way to blend science, technology and math.

Yum! It’s Science Time

The smell apples filled the hallway today as kindergartners explored the steps a scientist takes to conduct an experiment. The students tried to break down apples with a hammer and a potato masher but found the best method was heat. At the end of the day they got to enjoy the results of their experiment by eating tasty apple sauce.

Playground Scientists

Kindergartners wanted birds to come to our trees on the playground so they worked together to build some birds nests.  They discussed the kinds of birds they think will like the birds nests and agreed that the smaller or baby birds might come. They didn’t think we would get eagles or hawks visiting the nests.
