Who knew sanding could be so much fun? In the kindergarten STEM Special today, students transformed wood into sawdust and discovered that paper is made from wood pulp. They also classified six different types of paper based on their properties.
Check out this cool math video from Japan.
Students in 2nd grade are learning about Science in their Shopping Cart and looking for ways to add more vegetables and fruit in their diet. Too often we think we don’t like something but have never been brave enough to try it. Today, every second grader had the chance to try tamarind, pomegranate, sugar cane, cilantro, and bac ha (elephant ear).
Trying out a spinner experiment with my daughter. Notice the sound change when we add the water. If you come up with interesting spinner phenomena please take a video and share it with Mrs. Neseralla. Cneseralla@crec.org.
As Discovery’s solar panels are being installed I keep seeing all the STEM connections:
– Science in energy production and getting power from the sun.
– Technology in the leveling tools being used to make sure the foundation is even
– Engineering in the design of the panels, footings and the leveling plates
– Math in the 30 degree angle of the base and the required 42 inches the piling must be buried to go below the frost line.
Can you think of any other STEM connections?
Guess how many footings will be installed?
