Moon Shadow Study

First graders went to outer space and applied what they learned about shadows to the moon and its’ phases. They took notes, presented, discussed, used models, and made diagrams to explain why we see different amounts of the daylight side of the moon during the month. Their homework is to catch a moon sighting over in the next two weeks. The next full moon is the day after Thanksgiving.

Learning about our Food

Second graders explored the rooftop garden today to identify fruit and vegetables and observe how the sun’s energy is transferred to our food. Some students sampled arugula, scallions, sunflower seeds, and spinach. The students also shared the risk-taking they are doing at home in trying new foods.
